Bicycle Paths - are they worth the cost?

- Lethbridge Public LIbrary
- 7 - 9pm Community Room, May 11
- Please join us for a discussion on Cycling paths and the health, environmental, tourism  and economic benefits

We're not a couple of radical nuts. We're not going to picket, throw paint, or heckle... all we want to do is try to educate people on the environmental, health, economical (yes economical) and tourism benefits of having safe bike paths in communities, regions and across Canada. They do it in Europe ... very successfully... so why not in Lethbridge (our home base)... Alberta... or all parts of Canada.

We have some success stories; Victoria, Ottawa, Montreal with its new Bixi system (Bike/Taxi bike sharing program). Because we travel so much overseas on our bikes, we have developed an excellent slide presentation of bike paths that work, but we've complimented it with solid, and actually, astounding statistics of the economical, environmental, tourism and health benefits associated with bike paths. Let us know if you would like to see this presentation.

We're not just talking some sort of recreational thing... this is life and death. In 2008 two cyclists were hit on the Transcanada highway, and in Toronto a cyclist was purposely run over by a taxi and lost his leg. A community can do this very simply by installing markings on the roads. See the photos below to show you how to "start" a bike/car share the road program.

See our Links section to other Bicycle Advocates or Bicycle Associations.

Click here for a "teaser" of our 1 Hour presentation called "Bike Paths, are they worth the cost?" This presentation is on the economic, environmental, tourism and health benefits of having bicycle paths in communities. This one on line is just a quick look at some interesting pictures that we have taken on our travels. If you would like us to present this to your community leaders, give us a call or email.

Note: To run the PowerPoint slide show, it may take a minute to load and your pop up menu may ask you to download a .dll file (this will be safe and won't hurt your machine)

Really how much does paint cost!
